Local processing
All audio capture and transcription is performed locally in your browser using the Whisper AI model. No audio is sent to our servers or to any third party for processing.
What data we collect
We do not collect your audio, transcripts, or browsing history. TabVoice does not require an account and does not track what you transcribe.
The only data stored on your device includes:
- Your user preferences (e.g., selected language, overlay position).
- Transcription session history, including text, timestamps, tags, and source metadata.
- The AI model files, cached locally after the first download.
All of this data is stored in your browser using chrome.storage.local and remains on your device. We cannot access it.
Model download
The AI model is downloaded once from Hugging Face and cached in your browser's IndexedDB. After the initial download, TabVoice can work offline. The download is a static model file, not executable code.
Permissions
TabVoice requests browser permissions only for the technical operation of the extension:
- tabCapture: to capture audio from the active browser tab.
- offscreen: to maintain the audio pipeline and AI model in memory while transcribing.
- storage: to save your preferences and transcription sessions locally.
- sidePanel: to display the TabVoice user interface.
- activeTab: to inject the floating caption overlay when you enable it.
- host permission: to work on any website that plays audio, only when you start a capture.
Third parties
TabVoice does not use analytics, advertising, or tracking services in the extension. The landing page uses basic analytics to understand visitor interest, but this is separate from the extension and does not include any audio or transcript data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy as the product evolves. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Because TabVoice processes everything locally, our privacy commitments are unlikely to change in any meaningful way.
